			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>        <!--INFOLINKS_ON--></p>
<p> </p>
<p>If you own a beagle puppy, then you must need some beagle training tips that would benefit or help you in the process of beagle puppy training. With some patience and more consistency, you can easily train you beagle puppy to become the most obedient and disciplined dog. They are said to be bred in England as hunting dogs. With their skills in problem solving abilities and independent spirit, they make the most ideal companions. But these same qualities in them make it harder for your train your beagle puppy. Know these basic facts and some tips that I am going to explain here for your need:</p>
<p><strong>1. Basic facts for <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/05fP">beagle puppy training</a></strong><br />The number one rule for training your beagle puppy is understanding his nature. Keep in mind that they love to explore, play and solve problems. They can be distracted easily during the period of adolescence, especially when they are between seven months to two years of age. So, it would be better if you train your beagle puppy indoor during that period. By following this step, you can grow some good behaviors in him which will make it easier to train him later at public places and parks along with other pets. Training session shouldn't last more than 5 minutes else they will feel bore and start loathing the training without which they can never become well behaved dog.</p>
<p>      <!--INFOLINKS_OFF--></p>
<div style="width:300px;float:right;margin:12px 0px 12px 12px">
                  <script type="text/javascript">
          <!--
            AB_pos         = "intext";
            AB_lang        = "en";
            AB_cat_channel = "4667252598, ";
            AB_path        = "http://d21j60o022fwiu.cloudfront.net/";
            document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='http://d21j60o022fwiu.cloudfront.net/gads/controller3.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
          //-->
          </script><script type="text/javascript">
            google_ad_channel = "7940249670, " + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
            google_language = "en";
            google_ad_region = 'test';
          </script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"></script>
</div>
<p>          		  		<!--INFOLINKS_ON--></p>
<p><strong>2. Dominance</strong><br />We all know this fact that dogs are pack animals. But the pack mentality in beagle is more dominant. Once they start feeling themselves as the dominant one, then they will never obey your commands and will be extremely disobedient. So, you must establish your dominance over him from the early period. Some people feel pity for their beagle puppy looking at their innocent and clumsy look and ignore the mistakes or nasty things done by the puppy. If the same thing goes on during their puppyhood, then they start feeling dominant and mistreat their master. So, if you want to make your beagle puppy obedient and disciplined, then you should set boundaries for him from the day you bring him home.</p>
<p><strong>3. Secure feeling for your beagle</strong><br />Establishing dominance over your beagle puppy can benefit you in two ways. First-they will obey all your commands and secondly, they will feel secure in your leadership. Dogs are pack animals and they need leaders to guide them. If you become his pack leader, then he will feel much secure and that doesn't allow any abnormal behaviors in them.</p>
<p><strong>4. Positive Reinforcements</strong><br />Dogs respond quickly to reward based training approach. If you provide treats to your beagle puppy after he obeys your commands, then they will remember this good thing and repeat the same thing in the future when the same command is given to them. However, if you punish your beagle for not obeying you by hitting or beating him, then it will just make negative impact on them and there are high chances in your beagle to resent you for it.</p>
<p><strong>5. Patience but consistency</strong><br />Nothing can be learned at once. So, you need to be highly patient while training your beagle puppy. Don't make the training sessions longer. Instead divide the training sessions into many short periods. Involve him in it each day by making a routine. Be consistent else you beagle may forget the things you trained yesterday when you try to repeat the same thing after few days.</p>

<p>Popularly known as Frenchies, <strong>French Bulldog</strong>s genetically originated from the small bulldog breed of England. Connoisseurs believe that during the Industrial revolution British workers of Nottingham introduced their bulldogs to the French people. Since then, the miniature bulldogs in France are common, and the breed is on the verge of extinction in England.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>After the tryst with small bulldogs, French crossed this rare England breed with Terrier Boule, to convert them into the real <strong>French Bulldog</strong>s. And after the reproduction, the new breed gave its first universal appearance at the Westminster Kennel Club show, held in New York. People admired the new breed a lot and kids fell in love with them. That is why the <strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> are deemed as the great companions of kids.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Likewise human beings, every dog retain its special and unusual characteristics, which must be considered before you buy it. <strong><a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/R814">French bulldog puppies</a> </strong>are adored for their lively, chirpy and amicable attitude. Adjustable in nature, <strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> are comfortable in closed apartments as well as in open farmhouses. They are active, alert, conscious and ball chasing is a sport which they love to play. Walking in pleasant weather and hanging around is their favorite pass time activity. Moreover, some male <strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> are good-natured, sensitive and hostile to other dogs as well. In contrast, most of the <strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> are peaceful, silent and friendly to human beings and other animals. These dogs love challenges and being good learners, they can even undergo a proper training as well.</p>

<p>Universally, <strong>French Bulldog</strong>s have received matchless appreciation, but still different people have different choices.</p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>If you don't like snorting, snuffling and snoring pets, then don't go for the <strong>French bulldog</strong>s. </li>
</ul>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>If you're a busy individual and don't prefer running after pets, then get a <strong>French bulldog</strong> today. </li>

<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>Those who need security, reliability and powerful dogs, <strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> are meant for those pet lovers. </li>
</ul>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>In case you've swimming pool at home then you ought to be cautious regarding your <strong>French Bulldog</strong> safety as they can't swim </li>
</ul>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>French bulldog puppies</strong> can win your heart at the first glance, though; you need to take the level of compatibility into regard, before you buy one.</p>

<p>The Shetland Sheepdog came from in Scotland within the Shetland Islands. While they're a descendant from the Collie and frequently get mistaken for any small Collie, they're their very own breed. Initially these were used like a sheep herder. There have been couple of fences to help keep sheep together and also the Shetland Sheepdog had the task of creating sure these were all safe and in one location. These were introduced to England by navy personnel who visited the area and were drawn to the purebred young puppies they found there.</p>
<p>Today, the Shetland Sheepdog is an excellent family dog, however they have a inclination to revert for their roots. Frequently you are able to catch them herding family people, like children, along with other pets. But they're great family pets since they're obedient and quick to understand. They live to impress their people and therefore are very gentle with young children along with other pets. They're friendly and happy dogs, even though they might be reserved toward other people. They aren't considered to be aggressive whatsoever.</p>
<p>These dogs are very active, though, so that they require a family who'll provide them with lots of exercise. A lengthy walk, a jog by having an owner, a game title of fetch, or perhaps a lengthy agility session can all are good types of exercise. Mental being active is also key, because these are extremely wise dogs that enjoy utilizing their brains. Puzzle games, training periods, and learning something totally new could be useful to keep them happy.</p>
<p>Shetland Sheepdogs are vulnerable to a couple of serious health problems, including dermatomyositis, a connective-tissue ailment that causes inflamed skin Collie eye anomaly, irregularities within the posterior area of the eye progressive retinal atrophy, the gradual degeneration from the eye and Legg-Perthes, a degenerative disease from the stylish joint. Many of these conditions can be very costly to deal with, that is where <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/S7XO">pet insurance</a> can definitely save a dog owner. Insurance for your pet gives pet proprietors the satisfaction to create choices in line with the welfare of the pet, not according to cost.</p>
<p>This breed is very small, standing only 13 to 16 inches and weighing roughly 20 pounds. These dogs live to become between twelve and 14 years of age.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>        <!--INFOLINKS_ON--></p>
<p>Yorkshire Terriers are one of the most popular breeds of dogs in The United States, Canada and Great Britain. Just one look at one and you know why. These cute and tiny companions, like most other terriers were not initially destined to be household pets. Yorkshire Terriers, commonly known as Yorkies, came from Yorkshire in Northern England during the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution sent many agricultural workers to Yorkshire to work in the coal mines. They brought with them various kinds of Terriers - such as Skye and Clydesdale- to catch rats that infested the mines. They were then bred with local long haired Terriers to produce Yorkies. At first they were much larger than they are now. Over time, people bred the smallest of the Yorkies until they gradually decreased in size. The first Yorkie that appeared as they do today made its appearance in a dog show in 1870. </p>
<p>Yorkshire Terriers have a long and silky coat of fur, with no undercoat. Thus, they seldom shed. When they’re born, their fur is black and tan. When they mature, the black usually becomes more of a blue-gray color. By standard, Yorkies have human-like hair that’s very soft and smooth to the touch. Yorkshire Terriers have flat heads and their snouts extend a medium-sized length. They have tiny black noses and their teeth are generally leveled, with no over or under-bite. They have v-shaped ears that stand erect on the top of their heads which causes them to look constantly alert. Yorkies weigh no more than seven to eight pounds and they’re normally a mere six to seven inches in height. </p>
<p>Like many purebred dogs, Yorkies are prone to some genetic disorders such as Distichiasis (eyelash that arises abnormally on eyelid), Hydrocephalus (water in the brain), Legg-Perthes disease (degenerative disease of hip joint), and bladder stones. Some other common health problems that Yorkies get include Bronchitis, Hepatic Lipidosis (fatty liver), and cataracts. Oftentimes, they’re prone to early tooth decay as well. To avoid dental issues, you might want to consider feeding your Yorkshire Terriers dry food and definitely clean their teeth regularly. Although it’s rare, they may suffer from paralysis due to herniated disks or other spinal problems. Tiny Teacup Yorkies are more likely to exhibit these problems.</p>
<p>Despite their small size, Yorkies are adventurous and mischievous. They’re energetic, clever, loyal, but nervous. While they’re affectionate to their owners, they are especially nervous with strangers. At times they may be stubborn but they are very trainable dogs. They do demand a lot of attention, though. Although small, Yorkshire Terriers make great watch dogs. They may snap if they get frightened or surprised but otherwise they are sweet and loving. Yorkies are yappy but they are intelligent dogs and can be taught not to bark!</p>
<p>Yorkies are active dogs but they do not require a big yard. They are very active indoor animals. They still, however, like all dogs, need to be walked regularly in order to avoid behavioral problems. They are good with people in general and they prefer mature children to little kids. Yorkies are loyal and wonderful dogs to have as a pet.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>        <!--INFOLINKS_ON--></p>
<p>The beagle is an oxymoronic dog. They rank fifth on the 2007 AKC list of breeds - and yet have fallen off the top ten list in many cities, remaining third in Providence, R.I. There are good reasons - this isn't a breed for everyone. More importantly, it's a breed that needs understanding.</p>
<p>The origin of the Beagle, like many hounds, can be blurred. Packs of hounds have long been used in England, dating to Roman times. Both sight and scent hounds were used and it's not uncommon to have hunted in packs. In the 1800s in the US small hounds called Beagles were used in the southern part of the country. They appeared more like a Dachshund or weak headed Basset, and were high endurance dogs without type. In the 1860s the English hounds were combined with these small dogs. In 1888 the Beagle club was formed and began holding trials. Two types - one under 13 inches and one that was 13-15 inches.</p>
<p>From a show dog standpoint they are competitive but have not been changed as much as some other breeds. Perhaps it's the "hound stubborn" of the beagle that refuses to change. </p>
<p>These dogs need understanding on several fronts. Their size is a small dog but their nature is a hound through and through. The "Beagle bawl" is unlike any other small dog - their function as a hunting dog has instilled a unique bay that carries. This is, perhaps, a reason they have fallen in favor in cities - their willingness to 'give voice' is not encouraged in urban areas! Furthermore, there has been an increase in the "Puggle" - a crossbred of the Beagle and Pug - in many of these city areas.</p>
<p>This tendency can be tempered in hounds but not truly erased. They are what they are. They have flaws - but for those who are willing to make an effort, have the patience for training and are looking for an awesome small dog...give the Beagle another look!</p>
<p>These are incredible small dogs. They are very intelligent, although like many hounds, should not be trusted off leash as their nose overrides human commands and can get them in trouble. This is true even of part Beagles! They are some of the kindest, biggest hearted dogs of their size that you can find.</p>
<p>The Beagle loves to please. If you find a way to use their natural tendencies you will have a friend for life. As they are hunted in packs they are incredibly social, happy dogs. A single Beagle penned up alone without company is almost surely to bawl, howl, whine and bark his displeasure. Heavy handling or a dominant dog will make them miserable and can create a very unhappy dog. They are not fighters. </p>
<p>The Beagle is still very widely used for hunting, with field trials and especially rabbits their specialty. But there are other uses for those instincts!</p>
<p>The hound nose and willingness to work until the job is done combined with intelligence and trainability - what better description of a dog to protect our country. While not chasing down bad guys they have a job they've done so well there is a name for it. Some dogs can learn nearly 50 different odors, and their small size makes them ideal for a special job with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspections.</p>
<p>The Beagle Brigade often uses dogs that have been taken from shelters. This very special group of dogs once trained inspect incoming baggage of international passengers at airports. When the dog sits by a package then the package is checked by hand more thoroughly. The Beagle's keen sense of smell can get through packages much faster than humans can search it and more accurately than even high-tech machines. Their small size means they can get on top of luggage and inspect it as it moves on the conveyors without damaging anything and each bag, box and case is checked.</p>
<p>It takes 8-12 weeks of training to ready a Beagle for work, and another week with a trainer at their duty station. They wear distinctive vests which identify them as "Agriculture's Beagle Brigade." With on-the-job training and within a year on the job these incredible little dogs are identifying prohibited materiald correctly about 80% of the time - and this increases in time! They can work for several years at their job, with teams handling a half dozen flights per day.</p>
<p>The Border Beagle Brigade is an extension that works searching for prohibited ag products on the US borders. Other detector dogs have been trained to find termites, gas pipeline leaks, gypsy moth eggs and other items.</p>
<p>Beagles have also made major contributions as research labratory animals - and because of this more is known about problems that affect the breed than perhaps any other breed. Some lines were noted as being excessively aggressive, which is *not* a typical Beagle trait. Cancer, thyroid problems, deafness, vestibular disease, diseases of the lympatic systems, hemophilia, heart problems, immune system issues, skin and liver diseases, pancreatic issues, epilepsy and other neurological diseases, eye disorders, urinary and skeletal problems can be found in the breed. Researchers and veterinarians have learned much to help other dogs because of these dogs.</p>
<p>Beagles could easily sport signs that say "will work for food" - their chow-hound habits mean all food must be kept away from them. They need to be watched carefully so they don't get too fat. Low blood sugar can also be an issue - and quick treatment with Karo syrup or honey is needed if this is the case. The dog will appear disorientated, wobbly, sometimes almost appearing to have a seizure but with more focus of the eyes.</p>
<p>While this sounds like an extensive list remember these are things that *can* affect the breed - it doesn't mean all *do*. However, it bears notice not only in Beagles but in the crosses of them, for pet owners to be aware of the things that can afflict their dog.</p>
<p>One of the most noted and beloved of icons, Snoopy, was a beagle. Beagles have lived in the White House during Lyndon B Johnson's time in office. In June 2006 a Beagle was hailed a hero as a man's service dog when she bit his cell phone to call 911 after he collapsed in a seizure.</p>
<p>They are very smart dogs but often don't do well in obedience trials as they are easily bored with the repetition. Their gentle nature makes them great candidates for pet therapy programs. Their appearance in films like Underdog, Cats and Dogs and Shiloh in starring roles show they enjoy the challenge of acting. Beagles have also appeared on the stage and several television shows. Barry Manilow, a famous Beagle owner, used one of his dogs on album covers.</p>
<p>This is a breed that can life to mid to late teens. Like most small breeds, litters are smaller sized of 3-5.</p>
<p>The Beagle is a wonderful small dog for a home that has the time and attention for him. They aren't the perfect dog for every home - but they might be the perfect one for yours.</p>

<p>Year after year, Labrador Retrievers have consistently ranked as one of the best family dogs. With their intelligence, and laid back demeanor they make an excellent choice when choosing a dog for your family. Here's more about this breed…</p>
<p>History: The Labrador Retrievers roots, depending upon which theory you adhere to, either started in England or Newfoundland. Most theories suggest that the origin of the <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/2hGK">Labrador Retriever</a> dates back to Newfoundland in the 1700s, where they were originally considered a smaller version of the Newfoundland, and might even have been a partial cross of a now extinct St. Johns dog and the larger Newfoundland. By the 1800s, the Labrador began making its way to England and European countries, but compliments for refining the breed as a hunting and retrieving dog go to the English breeders. They are known for being black in color originally, with the first yellow and chocolate colored Lab's being recorded around the end of the 19th century.</p>
<p>To this day the Labrador Retriever was and still is used for bird hunting and retrieval of birds in the water. Even though today the Retriever is a natural when used for bird hunting, they were in the past, excellent at retrieving fish too, and still show their love for a good swim. Said to have originated in Newfoundland, there are those who speculate that the Labrador name comes from the Canadian Province of Labrador. Popular among breeders in Canada around the 1800s, the Labrador Retriever only made it's way to America in the early 1900s, where it was finally registered with the American Kennel Club in1917.</p>
<p>Description: Thriving in all types of weather, the Labrador Retriever has a thick, resistant to water coat, that comes in the various flavors of yellow, black or chocolate brown. Female Labrador Retrievers weigh in at around 55-75 pounds, while the larger male tips the scale at between 65-80 pounds. the height of the Labrador can range from 21-24 inches tall. Some of the beautiful features that this dog possesses include their muscular hind legs combined with an otter like tail, most often recognized while in their stance. They are also known for their proud, powerful looking head.</p>
<p>Life Span: 10-13 years</p>
<p>Common Ailments: May be prone to Hip and Elbow Dysphasia which might cause problems with mobility and arthritis in it's later years. otherwise, this is a hardy dog breed. Another possible ailment known to this breed is called Retinal Atrophy which is a progressive disease that results in reduction or complete loss of vision.</p>
<p>Suitability with Children: Yes, a very even tempered breed as well as gentle natured.</p>
<p>Suitability with Other Pets: Yes</p>
<p>Living Conditions: Labrador Retrievers do best in a home with a large yard or with land. They are easily adaptable though, and would also do well in an apartment or with a small yard if received plenty of exercise on a daily basis.</p>
<p>Training: This breed is easily trainable as a puppy. Combining their intelligence with their easy trainability makes them one of the most powerful combinations as a superior working dog and excellent sporting dog, as well as a wonderful family pet. Remember that Labradors need consistency and reinforcement from the time they are puppies and they will grow into a strong and gentle family pet.</p>
<p>Exercise Required: High</p>
<p>Expense to maintain: Low</p>
<p>Breed Temperament: Being definitely a favored breed in America, just about every puppy in the pound will state they have some Labrador in their blood. If not, many owners will make the claim that they do because of their gentle nature despite their size, as well as their extreme intelligence and ease at training. There is no doubt about it, the Labradors loyalty, agreeable temperament and affectionate nature are what causes this to be one of the most popular <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/IaVb">dog breeds</a> around.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that Labradors find their greatest happiness when they are outdoors sporting or exercising on a regular basis. While Labrador Retrievers can adapt to almost any living environment, owners will find they are most content when they are regularly exercised. If not regularly exercised, especially as a puppy, owners could find that they will turn towards destructive habits, like chewing furniture. Also, Labs that are not regularly exercised show a tendency to put on weight, as they sure love to eat. </p>
<p>All things considered, Labrador Retrievers will make a wonderful family pet with a little extra TLC, and along with the tender loving care, don't forget the extra running, fetching or swimming!</p>
<p>When Richard Livitski isn't busy digging up information on Labrador Retrievers, he's working on his dog names website <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/UnWa">http://www.dog-names-and-more.com </a> where dog names as well as other helpful dog related topics can be found.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>New Ultra-Luxurious Ritz Canine Spa Offers Doggies in England the Finest in Hydrotherapy, Massage, Acupuncture and Photography </p>
<p>The exclusive Lucies Farm Luxury Dog Resort has now expanded to offer its doggie guests, and day guests, luxury spa services. Dog hydrotherapy, massage, acupuncture, and even photographic sessions are now available seven days a week. </p>
<p> The Lucies Farm Luxury Dog Resort rolled out its red carpet in August 2004 and immediately became the favourite place to stay for discerning doggie guests from throughout the United Kingdom. Guests receive individualised attention, hours of exercise in the Farm's private woodland, and gourmet meals featuring the Farm's own Kobe beef. Owners can watch their dogs on the 24/7 webcams, and receive regular e-mail, text, or telephone updates.</p>
<p>The Dog Resort has now opened its new spa, The Ritz Canine. Serivces are provided to Resort guests, and a select number of day guests.</p>
<p>Canine hydrotherapy is provided in a heated, indoor swimming pool with adjustable underwater jets. Skilled technicians accompany each dog into the pool, and exercise them in accordance with veterinary instructions. After each pool session, doggie guests are dried with fluffy, heated towels and are treated to home-made cookies.</p>
<p>The Ritz Canine is one of the few places in the U.K. to offer dog acupuncture. Our veterinarian will help to balance each dog's Yin and Yang to relieve pain and tension.</p>
<p>Doggie massage is provided in the Zen Den by fully trained canine masseurs. Dogs find the experience enjoyable and relaxing.</p>
<p>The Ritz Canine also has a professional phodographer on site to take photos of the guests: these can be made into a coffee table book, large canvas print, or can be printed on leather handbags, Italian vinyl beach bags, cushions --- or even the silk lining of a stylish winter coat.</p>
<p>Open seven days a week, bookings can now be made online at <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/v8yT">http://www.ritz-canine.com</a> and via telephone to 01905-830-380. The Ritz Canine can also pick up and deliver doggie guests nationwide.</p>
<p>Reservations at the Luxury Dog Resort can be made online at <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://dogs.net/tmSk">http://www.dog-hotel.co.uk</a>.</p>

<p>The Yorkshire Terrier, also known simply as "Yorkie", is a complicated dog breed, with an interesting past and many unique characteristics. This article will help you understand this dog breed.</p>
<p>The Yorkshire Terrier was first bred in England in the early 1800's for the purpose of killing field vermin, such as rats and mice. They were then brought to the United States in the year 1872 where they became registered with American Kennel Club. After that, it wasn't long before they became a popular choice for pet owners. In fact, Yorkshire Terriers are currently the second most popular dog breed in the United States, only the Labrador surpasses them.</p>
<p>Yorkshire Terriers are known for their soft, silky, long flowing coats of hair. Many owners prize their Yorkshire Terriers for having the best kept look and compete them in tournaments. Their coats require daily grooming to keep a healthy, tangled-free look.</p>
<p>Yorkshire Terriers are one of the smallest dog breeds in the world, but their temperament doesn't match it. They still have a lively, energetic, fun personality, often enjoying playing fetch with their toys. Yorkshire Terriers can however be aggressive if provoked. This makes them a bad choice for people with small children.</p>
<p>If you have ever watched a dog competition on the T.V., you have probably seen alot Yorkshire Terriers jumping through hoops, or running through obstacles. That's because Yorkshire Terriers learn commands much faster than most other breeds. In fact, recent studies show that their intelligence level is in the top %30 of all dog breeds.</p>
<p>Even though they have such a high intelligence level, many Yorkshire Terriers have a stubborn temperament, and become difficult to potty-train. But with paying the proper attention to your Yorkshire Terrier, taking them out often, and keeping them confined in a crate during night, you can help ensure them becoming potty-trained successfully .</p>
<p>Yorkshire Terriers are an interested dog breed, with lots of fun traits. I hope this allows you to understand them a little bit more now.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>        <!--INFOLINKS_ON--></p>
<p>There are only two pure breed golden retrievers recognized by most of the kennel clubs and associations; the English golden retriever and the American golden retriever.</p>
<p>Though there may be other references like the European golden retriever, the English golden retriever is really the pure breed in most cases. In fact the American golden retriever has minimal subtle differences from the English type which I like to call the ‘original' golden retriever.</p>
<p> The golden retriever as a breed was first developed not in England, but Scotland around mid 1800s. You may perhaps be wondering why it was not named after its country of origin, so do I. Lord Tweedmouth is credited for developing this breed primarily for hunting, reportedly from a cross of the water spaniel and the bloodhound.</p>
<p>It was used for retrieving the birds that were shot during the then increasingly popular duck hunting spot in both the fur and feather and water retrievals. This was because of their characteristics like being good swimmers, their waterproof coats, and very high intelligence levels.</p>
<p>Though it was developed to fill a need, it is one of the most popular pets in the world over two centuries later. It is now available across the globe as a pure breed or as a cross.</p>
<p> The English golden retriever is slightly heavier and shorter, has a blockier forehead, a slightly wider muzzle than the American type. It has a deeper chest, a shorter tail, and a less hairy and firmer coat which is predominantly light cream or any of the lighter shades of gold color.</p>
<p>This further became a key characteristic which enabled the golden retrievers to traverse the rugged and wet terrains to retrieve the birds. It is now a stunning spectacle of the golden retriever that every owner loves to brush and rub.</p>
<p>Perhaps its most endearing qualities include its warm temperament and versatile nature that have made it quite popular as a family pet and even assistance for the handicapped. Its relatively high intelligence has made it a top choice for a rescue dog, drug sniffing dog, tracking and hunting companion and of course an excellent show dog.</p>
<p>It has a knack for banging the obedience and conformance awards in several competitions. One of the kennel associations beautifully and accurately describes the English golden retriever in the ‘general appearance' category in this manner;</p>
<p> "A symmetrical, powerful, active dog, sound and well put together, not clumsy or long in the leg, displaying a kindly expression and displaying a personality that is eager, alert and self-confident…"</p>
<p> I recently saw a UK kennel club cum British Small Animal Veterinary Association Scientific Committee report about the health of the English golden retrievers. I thought it was quite impressive that just shy of 20% of the golden retrievers had run out the clock or died of age related complications. Cancer took up the largest chunk of deaths, about 39% of all the deaths.</p>
<p> So it really is correct to say that every other golden retriever breeds are really a variation of the English golden retriever.</p>

<p>Following the political upheaval in China and the burning of the Imperial Palace, several Shih Tzu were found alive by British embassy staff and taken to England. The first Shih Tzu introduced in England were brought from Peking by General Sir Douglass and Lady Brownrigg in 1930. A Shih Tzu dog named Hibou and a Shih Tzu bitch named Shu-ssa. About this same time, Miss Madelaine Hutchins imported a Shih Tzu named Lung-Fu-Ssu into Ireland. These three Shih Tzu became the foundation stock for the well-known Taishan Shih Tzu.</p>
<p>Shih Tzu was introduced to Scandinavia by Mme. Henrik Kauffman. Another Shih Tzu, Tashi of Chouette, was brought to England by the Earl of Essex in 1938 and was bred successfully. Three Shih Tzu bitches were imported by General Telfer-Smollett.</p>
<p>The English Kennel Club recognized the Shih Tzu breed in 1934. The Irish Kennel Club recognized the ShihTzu that same year.</p>
<p>Within a few years, Shih Tzu from English kennels were being shipped to America, Canada, Australia, and European countries.</p>
<p>In England there have been four kennels that produced outstanding Shih Tzu that are now found in pedigree in all countries where Shih Tzu are bred and exhibited. The four kennels are Lhakang Elfann, Telota and Greenmoss.</p>
<p>Gay Widdrington's love affair with the Shih Tzu began when she bought a black and white bitch from Lady Brownrigg. The Shih Tzu breed was very rare at that time. The Shih Tzu puppy Gay Widdrington acquired was only the second generation from the first three Shih Tzu imported into the British Isles from China in 1930. The Shih Tzu puppy was named Mee Na and was quite captivating. She was described as looking like a "fluffy baby owl."</p>
<p>At this time, Shih Tzu breeding stock was very low and already very "inbred." When new imported Shih Tzu lines became available, the Lhakang Kennel carried out careful selective Shih Tzu breeding over a period of many years to help introduce and stabilize these new Shih Tzu lines so that the breed could be established on a broader basis. It is largely due to Gay's efforts that the Shih Tzu breed is one of the few in the British Isles free of serious hereditary problems.</p>
<p>In the late forties Gay and her mother decided to establish a Shih Tzu true-breeding rich gold strain through the line of the Shih Tzu Ishuh Tzu, who had been imported from Shanghai. That Shih Tzu line produced the color and flourished for four decades.</p>
<p>Elfann Kennel owned by Elfreda Evans came into the Shih Tzu breed in 1951. She decided she would do something drastic to improve the Shih Tzu breed. She mated a black Shih Tzu bitch to a black and white Pekingese dog, who had unusually straight front legs for a Pekingese. </p>
<p>Freda had an excellent eye for beauty as well as quality. She felt the Shih Tzu she had seen were too big, leggy, rangy, plain in the face and often wild in temperament. These Shih Tzu certainly would not have pleased the Dowager Empress was the thoughts of Freda. Since she had heard in China the shaggy Lion Dogs (Shih Tzu) had been crossed with Pekingese every few generations. She decided to do likewise to keep the Shih Tzu breed on the right lines. It was not very well taken by many. </p>
<p>I have two little Shih Tzu, Danny and Jane Jane that resemble Pekingese. These Shih Tzu are both one year of age and weigh in at 4 pounds. It is my opinion, their Shih Tzu size is a result of some of this crossbreeding, and most likely would have made the Empress Dowager "smile." My Danny and Jane Jane are exquisite little treasures of mine at Stain Glass Shih Tzu. I must say they have the "sweetest" disposition of all the Shih Tzu I have ever owned. These tiny treasures are very rare in the world of Shih Tzu today.</p>

<p>The term Bulldog for many people brings up many different images of the breed. Bulldogs in England and the United States have many differences in appearance. Bulldogs that have been bred in other parts of the world also have their own unique characteristics. This article will show the many differences of the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog when compared to other Bulldog breeds from around the world.</p>
<p>When most people hear the term Bulldogs, the first image that comes to mind is a short, stout, bow- legged dog with many wrinkles on top of the head. This type of Bulldog is referred to as a British Bulldog or English Bulldog. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, in comparison to the most common Bulldog breeds does not share the short legs and stocky body. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog has longer legs and a much leaner body.</p>
<p>The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog in appearance, looks more like the traditional Old English Bulldog then the English Bulldog that is known today. The reason for this, is because England passed the Cruelty to Animals Act in 1835. The law made it illegal to use Bulldogs in the cruel sport of "bull baiting". With the law enacted, many breeders of the Bulldog in England started to cross breed the Bulldog with other breeds, which has resulted in the English Bulldog appearing with the distinctive look it has today. The Bulldogs in the United States that arrived decades before, remain the same in appearance. The temperament of the English Bulldog and American Bulldog are very much the same, with both varieties being protective, calm and devoted to their owners.</p>
<p>English lace-makers and other craftsmen in the 17th century, developed French Bulldogs from the British Bulldog. The start of the Industrial Revolution in England caused many craftsmen to lose their jobs. This in turn caused many of them to move to France and taking their Bulldogs with them. These breeds, bred with the Bulldog made it smaller in stature, and the resulting smaller sized Bulldog became very popular in France for its ratting ability, becoming known as the French Bulldog. French Bulldogs are much smaller in appearance, have a shorter tail and the ears are more "bat-like". While the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are taller with a longer tail and longer ears.</p>
<p>One of the newest breeds of Bulldog, is the Australian Bulldog that was first introduced in the 1990's. The Australian Bulldog was developed to breed out many of the health problems the generally occur in the English Bulldog. The Australian Bulldog looks more like a British Bulldog, with the exception of longer legs. The Australian Bulldog, when compared to an Alapahas Blue Blood Bulldog look very different in size and leg length.</p>
<p>The only Bulldog breed that is similar in appearance to the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, is the American Bulldog. Both breeds arrived in the United States at about the same time, and even though the dogs may seem similar, there are some subtle differences. This is due in part that the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was used on plantations in Southern Georgia. The farmers only bred the dogs with other plantation owners in the area. This has created the breed standard that is known today as the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog.</p>

	<p class="wp-caption-text">Cavalier King Charles Spaniel</p>
</div>
<p>As you can probably tell by its name, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have Spanish roots.  These dogs are also said to be the reason why European Toy dogs existed in the first place.</p>
<p>People bred small spaniels with various Oriental Toy breeds and the results were small Tudor lapdogs, otherwise reffered to as “comfort” spaniels. The wealthy actually use them as foot warmers and to attract fleas that were otherwise bothering the owner.</p>
<p>Toy Spaniels eventually became popular because it appealed to people of all ages.  Sometime during the 1700s it is said that King Charles II was so taken by his Toy Spaniels that he was actually accused of ignoring important state affairs in order to spend time with his dogs.</p>
<p>These stories about the king and his dogs travelled so fast throughout town and other parts of the country that eventually everyone associated the Toy Spaniel with King Charles himself, thus causing the dog to become officially known as “Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Dogs”.</p>
<p>Soon after King Charles II passed away, the Duke of Marlborough was just as enthusiastic about this dog breed as King Charles II was. The Duke's favorite was the red and white Toy Spaniel which was named after his estate. For generations to come, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs graced the families of the wealthy.</p>
<p>In time the look of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel started to change. Eventually, more people started to prefer the look of the shorter-nosed Toy Spaniel.  However, when a rich American named Roswell Elridge traveled to England and offered an enormous money prize for the best “pointed nosed” Spaniels, it sparked a huge interest back to the original look of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They eventually became the most popular dog in England and was recognized by the AKC in 1996.</p>
<p>Personality</p>
<p>The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is opinioned to be the all-around best house pet that a family could own. This dog is playful, sweet, quiet, and overly affectionate. It is an absolute joy to have around and is amiable towards other pets, dogs, and strangers. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels love to explore the outside and is very adaptable when being trained.</p>
<p>Taking Care Of Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel</p>
<p>Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs need a moderate amount of exercise on a daily basis. This can be accomplished with a few short walks or a romp through the yard. This is one breed that is not meant to live outside. As far as grooming is concerned, its long coat will need a thorough brushing at least every other day.</p>
<p>Health Information</p>
<p>The lifespan of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can vary from 8 years on up to 15 years. Major health concerns that spring up are CHD, mitral valve insufficiency, and syringomelia. Minor healh issues include entropion and patellar luxation.</p>
<p>History</p>
<p>In the 16th century, the English royalty favored a diminutive form of the spaniel One name for them was the Spaniel Gentle. During cold weather Gentlewomen took these lapdogs with them for warmth during carriage rides. Charles II had several of these dogs.</p>
<p>While King William the third and Mary the second ruled, the spaniel with a long nose lost popularity. The Pug was popular in the Netherlands and it is surmised that spaniels were bred with pugs. William had Dutch ancestry. The spaniel acquired some Pug features. In the middle of the 19th century breeding and showing dogs grew in popularity and the looks of the King Charles Spaniel changed a good bit; his size decreased, his head assumed a dome's shape, the muzzle shortened, and the nose became pushed up.</p>
<p>General Looks</p>
<p>He has big hanging ears, big eyes, and is of a robust build.</p>
<p>Is This Your Breed?</p>
<p>The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is companionable and likes children. He trains well. His coat needs to be brushed every week. It doesn't require extensive trimming, though trimming the fur on his rump to be hygienic is recommended. He likes exercise, but enjoys a nap too.</p>
<p>Coat</p>
<p>The coat is silk-like, moderately long, and straight.</p>
<p>Color</p>
<p>The colors are blenheim,  tricolor,  ruby, and  black and tan .</p>
<p>Locomotion</p>
<p>The hind legs propel his movement, which is graceful. Looking at him at his side view the lengthy stride is noticed.</p>
<p>Personality</p>
<p>He is affectionate and a good friend. He is a social dog and friendly. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is playful and gentle. He does well with other pets, but might chase birds.</p>

	<p class="wp-caption-text">Basset Hound</p>
</div>
<p>Although we cannot pinpoint the exact time period in history when the Bassett Hound was created, historians have noted that the first mention of this dog was found within 16th-century text that made reference to “short-legged dogs used for badger hunting”.</p>
<p>We also know that similar dwarf breeds that had short legs were used in ancient times, but it is quite difficult to zero in on exactly when and why the Bassett Hound was purposely bred.</p>
<p>The word “Basset” is French and is derived from bas, meaning “dwarf”. We know that short-legged dogs were used for slower-paced hunting during the French Revolution. History of this dog breed shows a much clearer picture after the revolution.</p>
<p>It was at this time that Basset Hounds became more and more common as a hunting companion. Hunters needed a dog that was skilled enough with its scent ability to hunt prey, yet was slow enough so that they could be followed and hunted with guns. This is where having its small dwarf-like body became the perfect hunting recipe for these needs.</p>
<p>Eventually, four different versions of the short-legged kind were created.  One of these versions, the Basset Artesien Normand, is what closely resembles today's Basset Hound. During the late 1800s and then again around 1930, crosses were made with Bloodhounds to bring up their size. The first Bassett Hounds were brought to England and the United States during the late 1800s.</p>
<p>Personality</p>
<p>You will find that the Bassett Hound is one of the most laid-back and relaxed dog breeds alive. They are extremely amiable with virtually every other animal and human they come into contact with. The Basset is extremely suited for children and is well behaved even in the company of strange dogs. Although high in affection levels and friendliness, do not underestimate its watchdog abilities. These Hounds made excellent watchdogs.</p>
<p>Taking Care Of Your Basset Hound</p>
<p>Basset Hounds need a bit of daily exercise, but not too much.  One or two daily walks on the leash around your neighborhood will suffice.  However, like any animal, it is always beneficial for extra playtime and games when possible. Bassett Hounds should always sleep indoors with the family at night, but during the day having access to an enclosed yard is recommended. Grooming is minimal, with standard brushing and bath times during the week, but make note that these dogs do tend to drool often.</p>
<p>Health Information</p>
<p>Basset Hounds have a lifespan of between 9 and 12 years, sometimes longer, depending on good health. Major health concerns are ectropion, vWD, CHD, gastric torsion, OCD, thrombopathy, otitis externa, and elbow dysplasia.  Minor issues include patellar luxation. Obesity is often a problem with these dogs when owners overfeed them, so put caution on how much food you provide.</p>
<p>History</p>
<p>Some think that the Basset Hound was bred by monks at the Abbey of Saint Hurbert in France. The monks developed this breed by mating different types of French hounds. They wanted a canine that was easy to follow while walking. So, they  produced a dog that was set closer to the ground. The name Basset is derived from the French word bas and means low set or dwarf.</p>
<p>In the 18th century Basset Hounds were used for hunting in different parts of France by the aristocracy and other people. Lafayette gave George Washington two Basset hounds. During the 19th century these canines were sent to the United Sates and England.</p>
<p>General Looks</p>
<p>It has short legs and a heavy skeletal structure. It moves with purpose and is well balanced. It has long ears that flop.</p>
<p>Is This Your Breed?</p>
<p>The Basset needs scant grooming. It pursues scents when outside as a matter of course. It is a great companion because it is sweet and easy going. It needs some daily exercise.</p>
<p>Coat</p>
<p>The coat adheres close to the body and is short. It is thick enough for different kinds of weather.</p>
<p>Color</p>
<p>The coat can be bi-colored or tri-colored. Generally, they are white and spotted with tan or black and are marked with white. The tri-colored ones will have black and white fur, along with red, brown or tan.</p>
<p>Locomotion</p>
<p>It moves smoothly and powerfully. Its nose will be close to the ground.</p>
<p>Personality</p>
<p>They are stubborn, but will do well in obedience training, when the trainer is patient and the training is consistent. The Basset Hound likes a lot of praise and treats while being trained. They are affectionate and friendly.</p>
