I have heard that Labs are a little more dominant than Goldens. Also Labs "blow" their coats so in total which breed which shed more? I won't be home for around 6 hours a day so is a Lab or Golden more suitable for me if I'm gone for this long?

I just rescued an 8 month old great dane. Hes a little under weight, he has mange.... and was kept outside his entire life. But we took him in knowing all of that. he is going to the vet Thursday... the earlies we could get him in. I have done research on the breed but still want to know more. Is it ok to feed him Iams dog food. I just fill up the dish when its empty, I do have elivated food and water dishes for him. But I was wanting to know what other people feed their great danes, and how much.

Also how can I begin to train him. He hasn't been trained at all.
I ahve only had him 2 days now, and he was eating walmart brand dog food. I switched him to what we feed our other dog, but once he goes to the vet we will put him on what our vet reccomends.

ok here it goes.. i want too buy my mom a rottweiler shes in a wheelchair sometimes shes alone and our town isnt very safe and i worry about her.... anyway i was thinking if i get her one will he think of her as weak and turn on her... or will he be ok with her ...he would be an indoor dog only go out to go potty and for walks and excersize... what do you think im tryen too learn more about the breed before i get her one... thanks too all answers.....

Well, my mini comes from a great breeder that i know and trust, and he owns generations of dogs. I am wondering why you people would doubt that i would not register or take my pups to the vet if needed.

I know there is a Beagle. And I know there is a separate breed called a Bluetick Coonhound. However, I have had some people tell me that there is now a breed, recognized by the AKC I assume, called Bluetick Beagle. My cousin's dog may be just that type of dog. How could we find out?

I live in Lawrenceville,Georgia.... It isn't always easy to find full breed dogs.. Now that my parents are considering small dogs, these are the only dogs that my parents are okay with.. They also want them as puppies which make them harder to find. Soo that puts more pressure on me..So pleas help me find a breeder or some where they have Yorkshire terriers and chiweenies, but puppies of course.. Pleas and thank you

I just recently convinced my parents to get a third dog. We were at a petsmart and a rescue group was there and we found a Great Dane that we loved. We drove home told my dad and after a great deal of convincing he said yes. By the time we got back to the store the pretty boy was already adopted. My parents have agreed that I can get another dog anyways, but my mom read that Great Danes eat a great deal of furniture. I was wondering if this was true with a lot of this breed, and i was also wondering if they were mostly good with other smaller dogs. I curently have two 3 year old mutts (Springer spaniel/lab mix), and i love them to death, so i figured why not add to the fun and give a furry friend a home. I already have a Golden Retriever who is 3 years old and is generally in love with any dog with any gender.. He is really crazy about other dogs, like when we take walks at parks or when we visit the vet. That is why we avoid going to the dog park.

So, we decided we want to adopt or buy another dog. Preferably a lap dog (please don't say Chihuahua) that doesn't bark too much or is nice with other dogs larger than them. My dog is sweet with other dogs and would really like a friend.

When i move to Montana, my parents said that they will get me a Doberman Pinscher. (We are also adopting a shelter dog)

oh sorry.
we will have other dogs, cats, (so im getting a pup to socialize) and farm animals, like a horse. we will have tons of toys, i am going to train for a few hours everyday, a few walks everyday, and the way our schedual works, he and the other dogs will only be alone for about 2-4 hours a day.
so he wont get bored.
and i have trained lots of aggressive, shy, and high strung dogs. =D
i know what im doing. =]

I do not understand why I would be alergic to a miniature schnauzer puppy when I had one as a child and previously as an adult. I have bathed the dog several times, but after being around it for just a few minutes, my throat gets sore, and feels clogged up, and it is difficult to swallow. Does anyone know why I would be allergic to a puppy or this breed when I previously had no problem?

We recently lost our Airedale, Piper, to cancer. We would like to get another dog soon. We are open to adopting a shelter dog, or getting a purebreed. We have 3 sons, ages, 6, 4, and 8 mos. We have lots of experience training dogs and would like a breed that is of medium size under 50 lbs, smart, friendly yet protective, and not of intense energy. We give our dogs a daily walk and have a partially fenced but small yard. What breed should we look into?
