We have a four year old Yorkshire Terrier called Ellie who we love to bits and are thinking of getting another Yorkshire Terrier a girl. We wish Ellie could speak and tell us what she thinks, but she can't and would like to hear other peoples views or experiences.

i would get one, only if you can afford it though,.
Same sex in my book isn’t good. I currently have a female pairing and all they do is fight. And one of them is a puppy the other is 11 and spayed. Go for a male
It’s totally up to you. If you do get another dog, get one around the same age as Ellie. http://petfinder.com/ has Yorkies up for adoption in your area.
That’s where we got Sammy. He was two years old. He’s now 3 1/2. He’s a playmate for our Toy Poodle who’s the same age. He’s a Miniature Poodle/Schnauzer mutt.
Edit: Neos, I think your problem is due to the age difference. You have an 11 year old dog, who’s probably not crazy about puppies. I would have suggested getting a dog that’s older and more settled as a companion to the 11 year old dog. I know many people who have same sex dogs around the same age and have no problems.
Edit: Yes, Rayven made a very good point. We got Sammy when Gabbie was also 2 years old. We had to wait until we could afford a second dog. We wanted a second one from the beginning, but it just wasn’t doable.
Should you get another dog simply because you think your dog needs a pal? No. should you get another dog because you have time and money for one AND honestly want a second dog? I don’t know you tell me.
I have a two year Yorkshire Male named Beanie. About six months ago we adopted another female Yorkshire puppy named Boo. It was not without careful consideration for Beanie that we did so. He didn’t like her much at first but after a few weeks he learned to love her as much as we do. If you think you can handle two Yorkshires than by all means Ellie will love her as much as you do, after all they learn what their owners teach them. Good Luck!
