How Much Should My 5 Month Old Siberian Husky Weight?

by Dogs.net on October 8, 2011

I've got a 4-5 month old purebred Siberian husky male. Everybody which i run into to know about his breed has stated they feel he's just a little malamute in him due to his face structure and the stature. However when asking the vet she stated he was small for any husky. He's about 41/2 several weeks and it is 27.5 pounds. Please let me know you opinions about this problem I'd love some outsider feedback.

That sounds very thin for a medium size breed..
but if his bones arent prominent an your feeding him right, no worries.

She is most likely on the smaller side. Huskies dont tend to start filling out until they are 6-9 mos. of age. If you cant see her bones on her hips or ribs, she is fine. Just keep up with the puppy food until she is 6 months old.

To be honest, he doesn’t sound that small for a husky. It is perfectly normal for a full grown male husky to only weigh 45 lbs (35 lbs for a female). Healthy huskies weigh considerably less than other dogs their size. Added to that, huskies mature fairly late. I don’t suppose you know anything about the mum and dad? How big were they? I might be concerned if they were big huskies, but if they were on the smaller side I wouldn’t be worried.

Make sure to feed a high quality puppy food. Meat or meat meal should be listed as the first ingredient. Try to avoid anything with wheat as it is very common for huskies to be allergic to gluten. Corn/maize also causes lots of huskies problems. Huskies have quite primative digestive systems- so they are prone to food allergies. If you can see his ribs and are having trouble with him putting on weight it could be due to an allergy. However, like I said, he doesn’t sound too small for a husky if he otherwise looks healty. You should be able to see a defined waist line- just not his ribs sticking out.
