Would a Shetland Sheepdog Be Able to Befriend a Rabbit?

by Dogs.net on November 13, 2011

Since they are herding dogs i think it might change the outlook.
Also, what breed of dog would be best with a small furry friend?

Small furry animals and dogs don’t get along even the most well tempered dog could snap one day and bye bye rabbit .

possible with 24/7 supervision
none without a lot of training and supervision

I don’t know if it’s still true with herding dogs, but if the dog grows up with the rabbit as a puppy, usually it’s fine.

a very calm and accepting dog would be right for a rabbit but NOT hunting dog because it would be most likely to eat/kill it. Maybe a terrier or a yorkie would be the best. Golden Retreivers are also amazing dogs if you could pick out the right one.

With proper training and supervision they might be able to live together with no issues. I would never trust ANY dog 100% with any small prey animal. Why? Because dogs are dogs and rabbits are food.
