I'm Getting a Shetland Sheepdog. I Wanted to Know When I Should Start Bathing It?

I already know how you have to wait in the beginning and how often to bathe them but at what age should I start? I'm getting the puppy when its about 9 weeks.

You can bathe a puppy at that age, just make sure you use a puppy shampoo and rinse well. The most important thing is to dry the puppy completely.

Why would you have to wait to bathe the pup? There is NO reason why you can’t. Of course you’ll be getting the pup from a reputable breeder, not a BYB? Ask the breeder any questions you may have, before you bring the pup home. Be sure that the pup’s sire and dam have had all of their health and genetic testing done, and be sure to get a health guarantee as well.

By the time you get the puppy, its perfectly acceptable to bathe him/her if s/he gets dirty and needs one. Just use a gentle shampoo and don’t completely submerge the dog in water.

most likely your pup has received his/her first bath at about 6 weeks when weaned from mom. so it is fine to get it a bath when you get it home just be sure to dry it and keep him out of drafts until completely dry. and don’t worry if the pup doesn’t act quit as playful after the bath..he is just sulking lol
