by Dogs.net on December 7, 2011

My 11month old miniature poodle has been sad for 3 days and i'm wondering if is it because he wants a female dog? How do i even find him a female poodle,i don't know nobody that has a poodle dog,i wouldn't like any other dog for him but if you have any suggestion on to which other dog can i breed him please tell me.

He is not in heat, only females go into heat

He’s not “sad” because he wants a female dog. Dogs don’t need any thing of the sorts. If he’s acting out of character then maybe you should take a vet trip not a booty call.

Male dogs do not come into heat.

If you intend on breeding you will need to have the following done:

Entered dog shows and your dog has gained it championship title.
Got your dogs hip scores done.
Got your dog tested for PRA
Got your dogs patellas vet checked

This will also need to be done for the female.

As for finding him a female poodle that should be easy if your dog is good enough.
When you go to dog shows and your dog wins, people with females will take notice and may approach you to use your dog at stud.

If you have a clipped off, backyard bred, non show dog get him neutered immediately

I have a dog here (the one I use as my avatar) who is a beautiful example of the breed, the only problem was he blew the height restriction by 1/4 inch and he was a little heavy in head.
I had several people ask if they could use him at stud after they had seen him at dog shows.
I refused all of them.
Their females were NOT compatible with him.
I had him neutered a few months ago.

Don’t breed him, leave breeding to professional breeders. Male dogs don’t go into heat. Also if he does see a female in heat he will not mate with her because he was lonely, sad or wants to be father, it’s all instinct.

I am seriusly considering getting away from this site because of the idiots that pose stupid questions – some obviously for sick kicks, others because they are indeed looking for answers – but why they ever got – even worse, still have, any animal is beyond me! Many deserve prison terms for what they ask questions about – indications of how they treat their poor animals! Except maybe I am able to help genuines out there – I do have a heck of a lot of experience!

OK child, boys don’t have babies. If he is ‘sad’ – either he is sick or he is depressed. Do you spend lots of time with him? No. Do you take him for walks, play with him, train him. No. I would lay money on it! Start spending time and giving lots of positive attention to the pup. Better yet, find him a good home! As for wanting to breed him with another dog………….why don’t you check out the animal rescue sites, the RSPCA, animal shelters – either in person or via the internet. Have a look and see how many millions of poor animals do not have a good home and are destined to die – shelters only keep animals for a very short period of time before euthanising them! Have a look at some sites that show graphic pictures of poor abused animals! And you want to bring more animals into the world! Wake up to yourself!

Male dogs do not come into heat…only the females. How often do you take your dog on a walk? He needs at least 2 20min walks per day. If you have a fenced yard or dog park close go out and play with him. Get him some dog toys designed to stimulate the mind.

I would also set up an appointment with the vet to make sure it is not a illness and talk to the vet about getting him neutered.
