How Did My Pomeranian Know How to Lay Down on Command So Fast?

by Dogs.net on November 10, 2011

Okay, so I just got back from Charlie`s (My black Pomeranian) first Dog Agility class, he did SO WELL! At one point, the Dogs had to lay down on command, and I never really taught him how to do that, like mabye a of couple of times last year, and Charlie acurilly did it! So how did he do it so fast?

Some breed are very quick learners. Others take a lot of time to train, luckily it sounds like your dog picks up on things quickly. Teach him some cool tricks!

Some dogs are just very smart and catch on quickly. My Pom/Chi mix learned “roll over” and “paw” in just 1 day. And we always thought he was the slow one lol.

Some dogs are very smart and pomeranians are almost always stars when learning new things. Keep up the training and you will be continually impressed by his ability to learn most any trick or skill. Have fun.

A lot of dogs catch onto obedience commands like that very quickly. I think it only took one 5-10 minute training session for my dog to learn it. I’ve also noticed that certain breeds can plop into a down quickly and easily, so they’re more willing to offer it, while other breeds find laying down a little more laborious, so they don’t learn “down” as well (because they don’t really want to lay down since it takes them more effort.) I’d say a pomeranian belongs in the first breed group–ones that can go into a quick and easy down. So, fortunate for you, your dog was able to learn it easily.
