Skye: Papillon. I adore them. They're bold, incredibly trainable, get along with bigger dogs but aren't afraid of dominating them (which is what you need) and they're fantastic with older kids. Perfect size, too. And you can do serious training/competing with them; they're world-class tracking dogs, agility dogs, obedience dogs. I once heard a judge say he'd been bitten by every breed of dog in the toy group except the Papillon; he said they were the merriest and most joyful of the whole bunch.
