Could a Labrador Retriever Swim in a Steady River?

by Dogs.net on April 27, 2011

I am thinking of getting a Labrador Retriever and i know they love water but in my town there is no lake or non-moving water around here, only a river. And i am not sure if a Labrador Retriever can stand rivers that go at about one to maybe 2 mph. So what can a Labrador Retriever swim in rivers?

It depends on the dog’s fitness. Labradors are quiet good swimmers, so just give it a go in shallow water, if he can’t stand the current then it probably isn’t a good idea.

yes, but you must give him some kind of flotation device. so that if he gets tired he can rest.
