My Great Dane Just Got Spayed. What Should I Be on the Looking Out for With Side Effects?

by Dogs.net on November 24, 2011

I just got my 1year and 3 month old great dane girl spayed. I was wondering if anyone can offer me advice and let me know of any side effects or problems that may arise. Also, because I got her spayed, does she now stop growing in size? Thanks in advance.

Spaying does not inhibit growth, so if she is still growing that won’t stop it, though at her age she probably is as tall as she will get. Don’t let her gnaw on the incision site and watch for redness or drainage. Continue any medication the vet gave you, including pain medication. Keep her quiet so she doesn’t tear out the staples/stitches. These are directions your vet probably gave you anyway. Otherwise, you will probably not see any change in her except the absence of heat cycles.
