What Is Better to Adopt a Male or a Female Golden Retriever?

by Dogs.net on November 9, 2011

I am looking to adopt a new golden retriever. I have a 2 year old male golden. He is very laid back but needs loves. What is a better companion for him; female or a male golden?

i would say male because if there is a female with a male there may be some problems…i have a male golden and he is amazing….we are thinking of getting another male when he gets older to keep him active.

I’d say a male just because if you get a female there could be some problems. In general, both genders of Golden Retrievers are great!

I have 3 male Golden’s here with me right now! So it really doesn’t matter! Just as long as they get along and you can handle another golden than I’d look for one with the best temperment and health then go from there!

well both have their ups and downs! Your male golden will defiantly try to mate with a female unless he is neutered!Female dogs are usually more lovable to humans and listne more while males are usually playful so i suppose i would say female(MAKE SURE SHE IS SPAYED!!!)
or a male
hard choice
lol:D

it depends on the personality of the dogs not the sex!
good luck! and thanks for adopting!

Goldens are all-around naturally friendly dogs.
Is your male well socialized? Neutered? If so, you can get a female or a male! :) As long as both are fixed. I, personally, would get a female just *in case* anything happens between two territorial males.

i would go with a boy because they are more laid-back then females and thats a fact

Well depending on your opinion but i would recommend female because if they give birth they might have a male.

Look at the temperament, health more then the sex of the dog

I think a female is a better golden retriever to get becuase they are more calm and not hyper like males. But you might want to get a male if you like to play and run because they are hyper! But i think males are cuter because i have a males and he is cute, loves to play and very cuddly.
