my mom's thinking of getting an adult GSP...there's no small kids in our house, but we have a cat. my parents own the house and have a fenced-in 2400 square ft back yard. my mom doesn't work and she's home most of the time. she & my dad take 30-40 min walks every night, and my mom could take the dog places during the day. is this a good breed for my family?

I have a GSP and he is almost 6 months old. Hes a good dog. he knows how to fetch, stay, sit and down. Hes pretty good at all those commands but not perfect yet. I bought some quail to get him use to birds which he seems like hes not scared of. But what else should I do to get him ready for his bird hunting career?
I also go out shoot with my .22 and he seems fine with that. Im going to keep using that for a little while intil I switch to the 12 guage

I am looking into adopting a dog and the 2 breeds that I'm really looking at are the GSP and Husky. I'm an active person and would like a dog that I can take running with me. I'm trying to determine which breed would be right for me and was hoping that anyone with experience with the 2 breeds could give me some insight.

I live alone in a 1 bedroom condo. I would like to keep the dog out in my condo when I'm at work, but realistically, a crate might be a better option. During the week, I would be away from 8 to 9 hours. As far as exercise, I run from 2 to 5 days a week for about an hour. If I couldn't run, I would exercise the dog by long walks or taking him to 1 of 2 dog parks nearby. I live in New Jersey, so it does get to the 80's or 90's during the summer. Is that too hot for either of them to run (it would be first thing in the morning or later at night that I would run)?

The other thing is that doing a search on petfinder, there are only a few GSP's up for adoption in my area and many Siberian Huskies.

I have a 7 week old GSP/Weimaraner puppy. Both his parents were a mix of the same two breeds and i personally haven't seen it before. He is solid black with salt and pepper toes and a salt and pepper patch on his chest. There was 2 blacks in the liter, 2 browns, 1 full brown and white spotted, and all the rest were silver, blue. I was wondering how often you would see a mix of these two breeds?

hi

I just got a 1 year old GSP girl named Maika from my grandfather.

He has 3 or 4 dogs he uses when he goes bird hunting but gives them away after hes fully trained them and comes back and picks them up once a year or so.

Anyways

I heard somewhere that seeing as shes a bird dog that i shouldnt give her toys
?? which i dont really get??
but i just wanted to see if its true
and if its true could you explain why

hello! our gsp,sawyer, will be 6 months old on the 18th of this month and weighs 30lbs. i was wondering- how much did your gsp weigh at this age and how much more did it grow. or what is the average weight at this age and how much more should we expect him to grow. he will be a show dog and is from a long line of champions and we are hoping we will double in size. thanks!

Im getting a Mastiff cross pointer and Im wondering if anyone knows what it will look like when its full grown? Right now they look like little mastiff pups, soo cute...but im just curious as to what the weight and size will be as an adult. This is the first time I have ever heard of a Pointer...so Im not sure what to expect. I know its a mutt, but if anyone has ever came across this mix b4 your help will be wonderful!

So Ya I have asked many questions on dogs, yes i know a lot about dogs from what i read on the net, and books..........but i just want personal experience, I am wondering how well are they as family pet, yes i know they need exercise so besides that . how well are they with kids and are they protective of kids and there family................thanks for you input.............and please don't put anything about exercise cause from my knowledge every dog needs exercise..........Thanks for your time.....

I have a 2 yr old German Shorthair and for almost a year now we have noticed this problem with her, for lack of a better word; leaking. It only happens when she is laying down. When she gets up, there is a huge wet spot. The fluid is not urine and doesn't smell at all. There is no color to it either. She does not have any issues going to the bathroom, no blood in her urine. Never shows any signs of anything being wrong, just a happy, healthy doggy. I have no idea what this could be, but I would like to fix it.

Our GSP is having puppies on or around March 19th, need help on how to tail crop, length and position of tail, what works best and also with dew claws, how to remove, the best way. PLease if you just have a sarcastic answer i dont want to bother with your answer, i need help from someone who has really done this. We are doing this at home, the pups will be later vet checked. Do we need to buy anything to do this, are their home remedies to do this?

Today my family and I went to the shelter just to see the dogs. Not intendeing to adopt. When we got there we our attention quickly went to the German Short haired pointer.
I did some reasearch and it says they need a lot of excersise.

I have a very large house and a large yard. 2 teens that love to excersise and play. A pool and lots of trails near by.And a wife who loves to run. I also currently have a chinese shar pei mix with golden who we love and likes dogs. Tomarrow this dog becomes availible should we go see him and do we have the right requirments to take care of a GSP? Please help!

Hi! I have a 6 month old mini dachshund, and when he is fully trained, we are considering getting another dog. We want a semi/rare dog, with a short coat and intelligent. The #1 thing though, is a LOW LOW LOW LOW LOW prey drive. I have many animals whom I ADORE and I will not be taking ANY chances. I can give moderate exercise, and low grooming. Thanks

I recently adopted a 14 month old german short haired pointer, he is by far the best dog I have ever owned. But there is one problem! I also own a Chihuahua he is the alpha dog of the house and I know my GSP is a hunting dog and so far when they have met they get along, but there was one incident! Yesterday the GSP chased the Chihuahua and threw a BITE! at him! The bite didn't land but I was VERY scared! do you guys have any help to help them get along? any similar stories? or will the taco bell dog be dinner some night? This dog is very mellow and i see he is capable of being chill with the smaller one but can anyone help?!
