I’ve never owned either of them personally, but my aunt had two Brittany spaniels and they were both very sweet dogs, even temperaments and such.
what a mutt? yes most people own mutts
I have a GSP.
IMHO all GSPs have HIGH energy levels and a strong need for physical and mental exercise. If you give them the outlets for stimulation that they need, they can be wonderful companions. They need to be with their people and are NOT dogs you can leave alone in a fenced yard and expect to exercise themselves.
Nancy Campbell (head of GSP rescue) wrote a book about GSPs and her description of life with one is dead on. http://www.amazon.com/German-Shorthaired...
I don’t own a Brittany, but I do like them quite a bit and considered getting one for a while.
Like the GSP, they need a proper outlet for their high energy and something to work their brains. These are dogs that like to have something to DO. It doesn’t have to be a serious “job” it can be anything around the house.
For example, my dog helps me carry laundry to the laundry area. It started as an accident when I dropped a sock and he carried it for me—now I have him carry the clothes that seem to “miss” my son’s laundry hamper. LOL.
Get toys (like a Kong) where they have to do a bit of work to get their supper and hide things around the house they need to find.
These are two of my favorite breeds, but they are not for everyone. They want to be right there with you all the time and they need to be busy especially when young.
