I have experience training other dogs to hunt, but that is what they were breed to do. I would really like to get a German Shepherd, but how difficult would it be for me to train one to hunt?

It takes about a whole year for any breed of dog to learn how to hunt. Start by teaching him basic comands such as sit shake stay come roll over play dead……………. You get the point!
Not too hard, just start off with chew toys!
German shepherd are really smart and easy to train and if you know what you how to do to train it then itz going to be easy .. hope this helpz.
I’m not sure because I never tried it but it would probably be easier to train one when they’re just a pup.
It may depend on the dog.. I think it would be harder to train GSD’s to hunt than a breed that was meant for hunting.. they were bred for herding and guarding, not really for tracking and retrieving. They are pretty versatile as a breed tho, so its not “impossible” to train one for hunting.. but I dont think they’d make a very successful hunting dog.
