How can I potty train an apartment chihuahua?
How can I teach him to go outside in a liter box on the balcony? Or could I put a litter box inside? What's the best way to do this?

i think since you live in an apartment, a liter box would be the best way :]
Good long walks several times a day, once the dog has eaten, 30 mins later take the dog out again, every time the little dog gets up to roam, outside for a walk
keep this up, the dog will soon get the hint and will be house-trained.
Every time after you play with the puppy put him where you want him to do his business. After he goes, bring him back to where he sleeps. Every time he wakes do the same. Do not feed or play with him in the vicinity of his toilet. I trained my daughter’s chihuahua in 12 hours to use a potty pad indoors.
it is very easy, get a pet carrier if you don’t have one already. Put your baby in the carrier for an hour or so…then into the litter box first thing when you take him out. Play or feed your baby, then put him back into the litter box…then into the carrier for another hour or so. Each day leave him in the carrier for a little longer..until he starts using the litter box without you having to put him in it. Then you can start letting him run loose for longer periods of time. It should only take you a month or so to have him going to potty where you want him to go.
They make litter like boxes for dogs. I saw it at petsmart yesterday, but I do not remember the name. Try the petsmart website of the store.
A litter box would work, and the best way to teach house break him would be to use a crate. Crate training is definitely the simplest and quickest way to house train a puppy, or a dog of any age really.
It’s very important to get the right size of crate, it mustn’t be too big. Just big enough for him to stand up, sit down, turn around and lie down without touching the sides. You will need to take him out for his potty break regularly, and get a routine of meals, naps, playtimes and potty times established to help regulate his digestive system.
I would suggest you put the litter box outside, at least that way he’ll begin to associate the outdoors with his potty habits. Later on you could get one of the outdoor ‘pottys’ that have grass/sod in them and introduce him to going on the grass. If you move to a house or another apartment with access to a grassy area he would then be able to adjust more easily. Training for outdoors is always the best way to go.
