not only am I an owner, but I’m also very involved in pug rescue. so, here’s the facts- yes, their eyes can pop out. But it depends on their “bulgy-ness.” Zoe (the little one in the picture) will probably never have that kind of thing happen, where as Percy (the bigger one) has a slightly higher chance, because his eyes don’t sit as deep in the socket. I’m never really concerned about it, because it does take some trauma to do so. Percy runs with the big dogs (during winter) and has never had a problem. I’ve seen him be tumbled, and jumped on, and fall off things, and run into things, no problem. The second issue you’ve mentioned is the breathing problems. If they are kept at a healthy weight, the breathing problems seem to be negligible. The one thing we are very careful about is the heat. Living in Texas, during the summer, we only take them to the dog parks that have water. Yesterday we went to a swimming hole, and they loved it. But we try to avoid going outside for extended periods of time when it’s above 85 degrees. As a brachycephalic dog (squished face), [...]
