Why Does My Boxer Keep Chewing Things Up?

by Dogs.net on December 19, 2011

My boxer is a little over 2 years old. He used to chew things up like shoes, than stoppped. Lately for the past month he has been chewingt hings up like baskets, magizines, whatever. I took him to the dog park yesterday, came home today to another mess. What should I do?

He is bored and wants your attention.

Make sure you are giving him enough mental and physical stimulation. A 2 year old dog has LOTS of energy and needs a job! This type of behavior is usually out of boredom.

my sister has had several boxers. They are monsters for the first few years!!! She would come home and her mini blinds would be ripped down etc… Patients!!! These are incredibile dogs. I remember when she lived with me, Tyson was sooo destructive!! AGH!! I was at my witts end. Tyson settled down around 3-4yrs old. He was the most awesome dog ever. Its like they go thru the terrible twos for about 2-3 years. Be strict!!! Kennel. I promise you its worth it!! Tyson lived to be about 17…. awesome dog!!!! I miss him sooo much!!! You have the best dog ever!!!

Get him some bones and chew toys make sure he has plenty of things to do! If you catch him on the act correct him, if he only does it when your gone, keep your stuff up or crate him.

My dog does this when he is bored or is not getting attention.
Boxers need alot of playtime. Take him for a walk and get him some proper chewing toys

Boxers have lots of energy, so even though you took him for a good run at the dog park yesterday, today he had lots of energy and when he was alone got bored and chewed. Taking your dog for a walk in the morning can help tire him out. Also doing a little obedience training in the morning can also help.

To keep your dog safe from ingesting things that may harm him, and to keep your house from getting destroyed, you may want to crate train him. A crate is a safe place for dogs and most dogs love their crates after they have been crate trained.

Make sure that you give him alo of attention and keep those type of things out of the way.

majorly its out of boredom but it could also be due to teething problems which i doubt exist at this age. you could try to get some chewy toys especially for dogs and these are flavoured so your boxer is bound to like chewing on them. just keep in mind to get a few varieties since it might get bored with the same taste as my lab did and i was in the same predicament as you since i was at a loss of what to do.
