I have a 7mo Boston Terrier and he absolutely hates going in the water (pool/ocean). (He'll tolerate taking a bath) What can I do so that he'll like going in the water? I live in So Cal less than 1 mile from the beach, so him liking the water is kinda important to me.

Boston terriers are not water dogs, if you really wanted a dog that liked water you should have gotten a lab or golden retriever or something like that. The best way to get your dog to like water is to slowly introduce it to him, walk him along the beach and letting him aproach the water in his own time. But I doubt he will ever like the water. Just be thankful he doesn’t fight at bathtimes! lol
You really can Do anything If he dosn’t like Water then he dosn’t like the water just like you may not like a type of food. you can try to ease him in by letting him try a little bit of water at a time. Good Luck~!
You cant force him to like it. Just take him more often and he will get use to it.
PS. lucky!! i live in Arizona no beach =(
Try beer dog’s like that.
I have a boston terrier thats seven years old and he’s never liked the water, he can’t even swim! I’m going to teach him this summer while we go camping and start with shallow and go up from there, if you have him go by the water alot then he might get used to it and start to get in the water, but I live in Iowa so it’s not to important for me.
I have Chihuahua’s who love to swim and I don’t think that is a breed that would be considered a water dog. We got out the wading pool this summer and filled it to their chest level. Then we started playing with them by throwing their toys in and acting excited and happy when they participated. We were pretty impressed when they began to play in there on their own but this past week we took them to the lake with our big dogs and when we threw in a stick for our Shephard mix he had 4 little dogs racing him for it. We were quite surprised. After that we couldn’t keep them out of the water. That was the first time they had volunteered to actually swim though we had taken them there before. I believe it was probably a combination of getting them used to playing in the water (with the wading pool), having another dog show them how and getting them while they were young (all are about 1 year old). I say that if it is important to you, then keep working with your dog….anything is possible.
