YouTube "Best In Show" At 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show With Bloodhound & Shikoku Inu As Uno Looks On Free To NBC, AP, UPI, CBS, ABC, CNN, CW and FOX News Rooms, Duke & Stewart Share "its A Dog's World Comical View" by Drs. Foster & Smith Faithful Friends News Producers New York, New York--(February 10, 2009) - YouTube's inside scoop gives the dog's eye view from the 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show to the nations news rooms in a "lipstick slapstick." As the news producers of Animal Planet's Drs. Foster & Smith Faithful Friends use lipstick camera's in broadcast quality vignettes. Broadcasters and wire services get free footage and find out "who let the dogs in, and what the dogs are barking at" as nervousness, excitement and technology surrounds the largest and most prestigious Dog Show in the World. The "Best in Breed" winners are being prepped with their unusual perks at the Hotel Penn with massages, spas and yes, doggie treadmills. "Its a dogs world" treats NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, CW and FOX News Rooms to rare HD Quality footage from the dogs viewpoint. Sari Brewster Tietjen, a second-generation dog fancier and lifetime participant in the sport of purebred dogs, will judge "Best In Show" but, as appropriate, it's the dogs that will be fetching the attention. For more information or to obtain information on how to gain access to "It's A Dog's World" News Room Footage or to talk with Faithful Friends' Creator & Executive Producer Anthony Loiacono, visit: www ...

It is widely believed that the Bloodhound originates from Belgium and was first bred by the monks of St. Hubert's Monastery in around 1000AD. The bloodhound's ancestors undoubtedly came from France which was the home of many of the modern hound breeds. The dogs were known as 'Sequsius' and were used to track wolves, big cats and deer or to follow the trail of wounded game. After the Normans conquered England in 1066 they introduced many dogs and the St Hubert Hound was one of those brought to England. The Black and Tan variety of the bred became know as bloodhounds and the white were called Talbot Hounds. The first one entered the show-ring in England in 1871.

Care must be taken with young ones and they should not be over exercised, there bones and joints need to be given a proper chance to grow. The breed is cheerful and affectionate but because of its strong tracking instinct it can be willful which make obedience training tricky but achievable with time and effort. Patience and consistency is the key. As adults, they have exceptional stamina and need plenty of exercise. Their sense of smell in two million times greater than humans and once on the trail of an enticing aroma they will be desperate to find the source. Therefore gardens should be well fenced.

These dogs reach maturity at around three years old and they are gentle natured and affectionate dogs who will get on well with children, other dogs and household pets. They are very social dogs who do not like to be left alone. Due to this friendly nature they do not make good guard dogs as they would never dream of attacking and will welcome any visitor wanted or unwanted. They are one of the most patient and kindest dogs in the dog world but whilst quiet in the house they can be vocal outdoors.

They have several physical traits that account for their incredible ability to follow a scent trail left several days in the past. They can track humans easily as we shed skins cells constantly, Bloodhounds can detect as few as one or two skin cells in the air or on the floor. The breed has larger nasal chambers than most dogs which contain the receptors necessary for detecting skin cells.

Bloodhounds also have large, long ears which prevent wind from scattering skin cells away from the dog's nose and folds of wrinkled flesh under the neck which catch stray scent particles reinforcing the scent in the dog's memory and nose. One noteworthy dog called Nick Carter received extensive publicity in the early 1900's and went down in Bloodhound folk-lore. He was credited with more than 650 finds including one which involved following a trail 105 hours old.

In 2004 a UK kennel club survey had the average life span of Bloodhounds at just 6.75 years which is one of the shortest of any breed. Compared to many breeds, these have a high rate of gastrointestinal ailments (bloat or torsion). They are also susceptible to eye, skin and ear problems. Eyes, skin and ears should be inspected regularly and owners should be aware of the signs of intestinal problems (bloating) which are the leading cause of death in Bloodhounds. Symptoms include restlessness, inability to get comfortable, pacing and retching. The abdomen may also get swollen but not always. If an owner suspects a dog is bloating he should take them to a vet immediately as the dogs survival will depend on the speed at which care is given.

Bloodhounds have appeared as characters in various animated shows and movies including:

* Pluto, pet of Mickey Mouse

* Ladybird from King of the Hill

* Huckleberry Hound

* Snuffles in Quick draw Mcgraw

* Trusty in Lady and the Tramp

* Duke, Jed's bloodhound from the Beverly Hillbillies

* Buddy, in Cats and Dogs

Description: The Bloodhound is a large, if not, massive hound. The back of the dog is very strong. We see a long head that is fairly narrow, in proportion to the body. The muzzle is long and the nose is large and black.

The Bloodhounds eyes are large with the lower lips of the eyes being dragged downward and turning outward. The eyes are deep and colours vary from yellow to a deep brown. They have thin drooping ears that add to the total caricature of the dog, these are set low.

The Bloodhound has copious amounts of baggy skin, with even more around the head and neck. It has strong, muscular legs that are straight. The tail is high with a slight curve that can be seen over the top of the top line. Their coat is wrinkled but short. It is hard to the touch, but has softer hair on the ears and skull. Colours are liver and tan, black and tan and red and tawny. There can be a small amount of white on the feet, chest and stern.

History: This is a breed that is over 1000 years old. It was perfected by Monks of St. Hubert. Later this breed was brought to England by the Normans and from there they have gone global. It has been known as the Flemish Hound. This dog lives to hunt but is not a keen killer. Tracking is a firm favourite with this breed, and they have been used for tracking criminals, slaves that have run away and the odd lost child but mostly they have and are still used as a tracker for animals.

Temperament: This is a loving dog that shows patience, gentleness and is a well mannered dog. This is a good natured dog and can even tolerate very young children climbing over them, not that this gentle nature should be taken advantage of. With its wish for lots of attention, it still manages to hold on to its independence and determination. This breed needs firm but gentle handling at all times. Good leadership is a must. The male dogs go through a teen patch, where you will have to hold your ground. Regarding training this dog is not top of the class and basic obedience is all you can ask for. Clear reinforced rules work well, beside great leadership from the owner. Socializing this dog is important as well as long daily walks. This breeds tracking is so good that it is admissible in a court of law. They have been used to track children that are lost, and the odd criminal as well. Holding this great skill in mind when you are out walking, as keeping this breed on a lead is a must.

Health issues: This breed can get bloat, so feed this dog in small meals a few times a day. Hip dysplasia can happen. Entropion with the eyes and ear infections.

Grooming: This coat can be looked after with a hound glove, bathing only when really necessary. You have to clean the ears well and regularly. This dog has a distinctive smell that is just part and parcel of the breed.

Living conditions: This breed will do well in a flat but only if you really walk them well. It is best to have a garden that is well fenced for this breed.

The Bloodhound is a scent hound unequalled, some say, by any other breed. The name actually does not mean that it scents or tracks "blood" as is commonly believed. The Bloodhound was a dog that was held in favor by the English "bluebloods" or nobility and that is the origin of the name.

The Bloodhound is an ancient breed and has remained relatively stable since long before the coming of Christ. This is a dog that has always been used for trailing humans. A well trained Bloodhound, when on the trail, travels with great purpose and determination and often will be tireless for hours.

It is said that a good Bloodhound can trail the scent particles which have wafted out the window of a vehicle as it travels. In fact this has been speculated about in the records of some of the man hunts which have been recorded in various locales in the United States. The dog in any case has such a strong drive to follow a trail and such a talent for scent discrimination that there have been instances where "contaminated" trails older than five days have been successfully followed.

The Bloodhound is susceptible to the condition of inverted eyelids. This can be surgically corrected. If not done, the dog can be in severe pain, so this is a condition which an owner needs to be aware of. Bloodhounds are also one of the breeds which seem to be predisposed to bloat, which is common in many of the larger breeds. And of course, as is also the case with most of the larger breeds, hip dysplasia is a continuing problem and animals that are to be used for breeding need to be x-rayed for this condition.

The bloodhound's distinctive look, wrinkled and pendulous, actually contributes to it's scenting capability. The long ears sweep the ground and help to bring up the smells into the dog's nasal passages. The long muzzle which is also very "deep" is another factor which enhances the dog's natural scenting ability. He is a large dog, males weighing over 100 pounds and standing 27 inches tall.

The body is big boned, feet seem to be overly large for the size of the breed, the legs are heavy boned and sturdy. The colors of the coat can be deep red, black and tan, or liver and tan. The coat is dense and short and somewhat oily. The loose folds of skin on the flews and below the muzzle on the chest and chin need to be kept clean if the dog drools, (many of them are "droolers") Other than that a good wipe down with a towel will suffice most of the time.

It is essential that this dog have early contact with people, this is part of its nature. It should not be used as an attack animal. This is a dog with a sweet and gentle personality, however it can be stubborn and difficult to train and has a great deal of strength and power in its shoulders. If not properly trained to a leash early, it is often too much for a person without "dog sense" to handle.

This is a dog that has so much concentration on what he is smelling that he puts himself in danger when off leash, he will pay no attention to cars, but remain attentive to whatever smell he is tracking. He is a dog of a generous nature and loves to be with his family. As puppies, they are large and awkward and clumsy. A household with a puppy bloodhound definitely needs to be puppy proofed as it will investigate everything thoroughly.

A familiar looking wrinkly and long eared dog, the Bloodhound breed is more than one thousand years old at present. Originally bred in Belgium by the monks of St. Hubert, the monks selectively bred Bloodhounds with other hounds to perfect the scenting ability of this great breed. Bloodhounds were brought into England and eventually America. Bloodhounds have the strongest scenting ability of all hounds and are known for the ability to track scents over long distances that may be days old.

Today, Bloodhounds are bred for the specific purpose of tracking human beings and are used to track victims of disasters or used by the police to track down suspects. Part of the Bloodhound history includes being used in the United States to track down runaway slaves. However, Bloodhounds are not hunters. They do not enjoy killing the prey, just capturing it. They will surround the prey and bay to let the master know its location. Male Bloodhounds will grow to between 25 and 27 inches and weigh 90 to 110 pounds. Female Bloodhounds will average 23 to 25 inches in height and 80 to 100 in weight. This large breed of dog will live about 10 to 12 years.

Bloodhounds have shorthaired coats that are easy to care for and can be black and tan, liver and tan and red and tawny. However, even with regular cleaning, Bloodhounds are sometimes described as having a strong 'dog' odor that will not go away. Bloodhounds tend to drool more than most dogs, and are also prone to howl and snore more as well. Described as kind, patient and affectionate, Bloodhounds are a good family dog and do well with children. In fact, many Bloodhounds will allow children to climb all over and will not react in any way. However, exercise caution when Bloodhounds are around children. This large dog may knock over smaller children accidentally.

Bloodhounds need firm and consistent training since they can be strong-minded. This is especially true (and especially important) when out with a Bloodhound, as they will take off after a scent that has caught their attention. Bloodhounds can live in any environment, provided they are exercised at least once a day. Bloodhounds can have medical problems including bloat, stomach cramps, hip dysplasia and ear infections. A padded bed is recommended to avoid calluses on the joints. Some tend to get entropion, where the eyelids turn inward.

The Bloodhound or St. Hubert Hound is an ancient breed that dates back over 1500 years. The name Bloodhound refers to their pure blood and pure breeding standards. This large scent hound ways between 70-115 pounds and measures 23" to 27" in length. They are known for their excellent tracking ability that can be matched by no other dog.

In fact, it is due to this innate, unmatched tracking ability that they are the only dogs whose tracking testimony is permitted in the court of law. Tracking trails performed by police Bloodhounds are permissible in court. A Bloodhound by the name of Nick Carter is credited for finding over 600 criminals. He reportedly once followed a trail that was over 100 hours old to catch a fugitive. Sherlock Holmes was often referred to as the human Bloodhound because of his excellent investigative work.

Bloodhounds are recognized by the AKC. Their permissible coat colors include liver and tan, black and tan, or red and tawny. White flecks or a small amount of white on the chest and feet is allowed. Their short, smooth and hard coat is easy to groom and requires only minimal grooming with a hound glove. They only need bathed when necessary.

Although energetic and intense when working, the Bloodhound is gentle and friendly when they are home with their family. They are laid back and easy going when they are not working and are wonderful with children. They do best with other dogs and pets that they are raised with from puppyhood. This is particularly true for non-canine pets as they have an innate tracking/chasing drive. They tend to be head strong and are difficult to train.

No matter how well trained they are, if they find an interesting scent to follow, they will follow it until they are satisfied and will only stop when they are ready to stop no matter how many times you call them. For this reason they should be walked on a leash and kept in a fenced in yard. Even though they are not a high energy dog at home, they still require regular exercise and play. They love time to explore outside and are best in homes with a yard. They are not meant for apartment life.

The Bloodhounds ancestry dates back over 1500 years. They are often called St. Hubert Hounds because the St. Hubert monks in Belgium are credited with perfecting the breed to what we know it as today. They were brought to the United States from England. They were traditionally considered hunting and tracking dogs and are still used for these things today as well as police work and family companionship.

Perfect as hunting dog or companion dog for active families, the Bloodhound is an intelligent, curious breed that loves to explore the countryside with their family by day and relax inside with their family by night. Good with children, the Bloodhound works well with family life. If you are a family that enjoys outdoor activities and are looking for a dog to share in all aspects of family life, the Bloodhound might be a good choice for you.
