The best food, for a new puppy, is the one she’s been used to eating, back with her breeder. If you switch abruptly, she will have an upset tummy, especially as coming to a new environment is stressful enough for a young dog. So contact the breeder and ask what they have been feeding her, and continue with that for at least another month or so. If you are not happy with her progress, then by all means switch, but do it gradually. If you are in the UK, I can recommend either Burns, or Arden Grange.
As for teething, that doesn’t happen until around 5 months so if she’s only 14 weeks, she’s not yet teething.
look on the internet or ask a vet
No kibble is good for your dog. Try researching raw feeding. I started it recently with my dogs (a 7 year old Smooth Collie and an 8 week old Bluetick Coonhound) and they LOVE it! I can already see a difference in my collie. He is developing more muscle tone and his coat just shines! It sounds scary to feed this way because there are so many variables, but it is actually super easy.
Raw feeding:
-keeps their teeth clean- chewing on bones and eating this way scrapes tartar off more efficiently than kibble. Kibble fed dogs develop serious periodontal disease at a fairly young age. My collie has the teeth to prove it.
-reduces their poop to almost nothing and takes away almost all of the smell- it is the fillers that are not digested that make a kibble fed dog’s poop so humungous. When fed strictly meat, bone, and organs, their body uses so much more of what they are eating.
-maintains steady growth in pups-while pups still grow to the appropriate size, they do so at a more steady pace. They don’t go through those huge growth spurts that can cause joint damage
-is good for teething puppies- raw feeding is a huge advantage to teething puppies. Their normal meals are going to help them with the unpleasantness going on in their mouths. You can serve their food cold (not frozen as puppies have problems digesting frozen meat) to help soothe their gums.
If you insist on kibble feeding, then your average brands are no good. If you want a decent kibble, you are going to have to pay to match. My preferred choice of kibble before I went raw was $60 for a 30 lb bag. With raw, I can buy 50 lbs of chicken for $30 and 30 lbs of beef for $30.
Kibble= $60 for 30lbs of food
Raw= $60 for 80 lbs of meat
There is no way your pup is teething yet. She is MUCH too young, but for teething kibble fed pups, I have heard that you can freeze a wet rag (ok because they are not swallowing chunks of anything frozen) for them to gnaw on. When it becomes warm, get it wet again and refreeze it for them. We have a friend who would freeze several at a time so she always had one available for the pup.
Whether you are interested in looking into raw feeding or want to stick with kibble, check out this forum. It has two separate areas for kibble feeders and raw feeders. I don;t know about the kibble people on here, but the raw feeders are great so I think the community as a whole is probably good.
I feed my puppies Taste of the Wild all breed puppy food.
the best dry kibble mix is james wellbeloved had my dog on it for 14 years ask at your local pet shop
I give to my dog, JAMES WELLBELOVED with a bit of water to make soft and frozen food for dogs, is 7% meet is very high quality.
Is allways better to spend money in a good quality food and not in vet bills, I know several dogs that had been eating pedigree for they whole life and they had stomach cancer. So my advice is avoid brands that have the following on the label:
“Cereals”
“meat and animal derivatives”
“EC permitted additives”
Artificial colours, flavourings, preservatives
Other good foods I know I Royal Canin and Pro Plan.
The best are:
James wellbeloved
Royal Canin
Arden Grange
Burns
You can find in pet shops or online.
