How Do I Stop My Beagle Puppy From Shedding So Much?

by Dogs.net on December 27, 2011

My beagle is 5 months old, he smells fine, and is pretty well potty trained but he always sheds so much so thats why we keep him in the patio. I would love to bring him inside the house, but if he ever lays down so much hair comes off him and even if he walks hair sheds off. I really want to find a good way for him to stop shedding so I can keep him in the house more.

Brushing it in a daily basis should help.

u cant stop animals from shedding, its natural for dogs to shed and they also shed alot more in the summer then the winter, spring, and fall

There is this brush called the Furminator, that takes all the undercoat away. But why use this, it’s ruining the coat.

I recommend just daily brushing with a firm slicker brush. It really, really helps. Bathing with suds will also really help, but doing this too often will banish their natural oils.

These are the simplest, fast resulting method ever to me! hope i helped!

There isn’t really a way to stop shedding but bring him outside everyday and brush him really well with a wire brush then a rubber brush to remove the hair the wire brush loosened. Also give him baths regularly not because he is dirty but it helps with the shedding i give my dogs a bath every two weeks, more often then that could cause dry skin. Certain time of the year are worse for shedding then others so during the spring and more shedding times vaccum and clean more. Good luck the time and effort put into cleaning and brushing is worth the better life for your dog:)

Hm, seems you missed this part when you were researching the breed before you bought one. Beagles shed–A LOT. It’s a fact, breed trait, and all you can do is try to minimize it.

Put him on a high quality kibble (no corn, wheat, or soy, first ingredient is a meat meal from an identified animal), or put him on a proper raw diet (like prey model). Poor nutrition certainly contributes to shedding, sometimes heavily. Second, get a good brush appropriate for his coat type and brush him daily. Then, vacuum daily.

Oh my!

You can reduce (not eliminate) the shedding with frequent brushing/grooming and a healthy diet.

But I gotta tell you, the shedding you see now is NOTHING like what’s to come once he’s an adult. Beagles shed a lot, and twice a year they shed even more.

It sounds like maybe a Beagle is not the right dog for you. Perhaps you should see if you can return him, or find a rescue to take him so he can find a new home while he’s still young.

first off did you know that beagles shed ? and if you had done your homework maybe you would have gotten a non shedding breed. the only way is to brush every day with the furmnator. some people have there beagle shaved because of the shedding. ,but since yours is still a puppy you should have him Professional wash at the groomers and ask about a de shedding treatment.

Give your dog a good bath.
Then while your dog is still wet/damp brush him. When he’s dry brush him again.
You could also just buy a vacuum brush.
_________
You could also add a tablespoon of olive oil to his food. Olive oil contains the essential nutrients your dog needs for their skin and fur.
_________
Shedding could be a sign of a more serious skin problem so you could book an appointment with the vet.
If your dog has been shedding his whole life you may not have to worry about booking and appointment but just follow the suggestions above ^ ^ ^

Bath a little more than regularly and brush him daily
